Tropogel Lost Control Systems

Overview Headline

Lost circulation is a critical issue in drilling and cementing operations that could lead to catastrophic scenarios if not promptly and adequately treated.

To address those concerns a special thixotropic cement system has been designed that develop extremely high gel strength when the slurry stops and regain pumpability by re-applying shear.

TROPOGEL is a specifical system designed for treating losses and enable further drilling to help achieve zonal isolation by accomplishing intended top of the cement. The solution is applicable for any type of loss and is very effective for severe to total losses.

Features

  • Rapidly gels when shear rate is reduced; pumpable again by re-applying shear.
  • Early static gel strength coupled with early compressive strength helps plug thief zones and mitigate further lost circulation.
  • Lower rheology during pumping enhances penetration of thief zone.<
  • Low density ~ 10 ppg.
  • Properties less dependent on temperature variation
  • Can be pumped in WBM or OBM environments.
  • Can be mixed and pumped using conventional equipment.
  • Can be pumped through the drilling BHA.
  • Can be designed to be acid soluble.
  • Low density, low solids content and high yield
  • Maximum penetration into the loss zone maximizes the chance of success to cure the losses.
